What is the ratio of wavelength of (II) ...

What is the ratio of wavelength of (II) line of Balmer series and (I) line of Lyman series ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`1/(lamda_(2B))=R_(H)[1/(z^(2))-1/(4^(2))]=R_(H)xx3/16`
For II line of Balmer `n_(1)=2,n_(2)=4`
`1/(lamda_(1L))=R_(H)[1/(1^(2))-1/(z^(2))]=R_(H)xx3/4`
For I line of Lyman, `n_(1)=1, n_(2)=2`
`:.(lamda_(2B))/(lamda_(1L))=R_(H)xx3/4xx16/(3xxR^(H))=4`
