Justify the following reactions are redox reactions :
`CuO(s)+H_(2)(g)toCu(s)+H_(2)O(g)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`overset(+2)(Cu)overset(-2)(O)(s)+overset(0)H_(2)(g)tooverset(0)Cu(s) +overset(+1)H_(2)overset(-2)O(g)`
In the reaction ,the oxidation number of Cu decrease `(+2to 0)` indicating the reduction of CuO, and the oxidation number of H increases `(0 to +1)`. indcatuing the oxidation of `H_(2)`.Hrnce it is a redox reaction .
