Fluroine reacts with ice and results in ...

Fluroine reacts with ice and results in the change : `H_(2)O+F_(2)(g)toHF(g)+HOF(g)`,Justify than this reaction is a redox reaction.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`overset(+1-2)(H_(2)O)(s)+overset(0)F_(2)(g)tooverset(+1-1)(HF(g))+overset("+1 0 -1")(HOF)(g)`
In the reaction ,`H_(2)O` undergoes oxidation because the oxidation number of O increase (-2 to 0) and `F_(2)` undergoes reduction as the oxidation number of F decreases (0 to -1) . Hence it is a redox reaction
