The diameters of the larger and the smaller pistons of a hydraulic press are 45 cm and 5 cm respectively. Find the magnitude of the force that has to be applied on the smaller piston to produce a 4050 N thrust on the larger piston.

According to Pascal.s law, `F_(1)/(pir_(1)^(2))=F_(2)/(pir_(2)^(2))`
[`F_(1)` = force on the smaller piston, `r_(1)` = radius of the smaller piston, `F_(2)` = force on the larger piston, `r_(2)` = radius of the larger piston]
`F_(1)/(r_(1)^(2))=F_(2)/(r_(2)^(2))or,F_(1)/((5/2)^(2))=4050/((45/2)^(2))`
or, `F_(1)=(4050xx25xx4)/(4xx45xx45)=50N`.
