A body is fully immersed in water. Calculate the change in potential energy of the body, raised to a height h inside the water.

Text Solution

Let `rhoandrho_(0)` be the density of the material of the body and the water respectively. If V is the volume of the body, then apparent weight of the body
= `Vrhog-Vrho_(0)g=V(rho-rho_(0))g`
Therefore, increase in potential energy of the body,
`DeltaU` = work done in raising the body to a height h
`=V(rho-rho_(0))gxxh`
