Figure shows two identical particles `1` and `2`, each of mass `m`, moving in opposite directions with same speed `vec V` along parallel lines. At a particular instant, `vec r_1` and `vec r_2` are their respective position vectors drawn from point `A` which is in the plane of the parallel lines. Which of the following is the correct statement ?
.

A

Angular momentum `l_(1)` of particle 1 about A is `l_(1)= mud_(1)`

B

Angular momentum `l_(2)` of particle 2 about A is `l_(2)=mvr_(2)`

C

Total angular momentum of the system about a is `l= mv (r_(1)+r_(2))`

D

Total angular momentum of the system about A is `l= mg (d_(2)-d_(1))o+`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A,D

Since
`vecl=vecrxxvecp`
For particle 1
`l_(1)=mvecvxxvecr_(1)=mvr_(1)sintheta=mvd_(1) o.` perpendicular to the page and directed outwards.
For particle 2
`l_(2)=m|vecvxxvecr_(2)|)=mvr_(2)sintheta=mvd_(2)ox` perpendicular to the page and directed inwards
So total angular momentum
`l=l_(1)+l_(2)=mv9(d_(2)-d_(1))ox`
It would be perpendicular to plane of the page and directed inwards.
The correct options are (a) and (d).
