At an airport, a perosn is made to walk through the door wy of a metal detector, for security reasons. If `she//he` is carrying anything made of metal, the metal detector emits a sound. On what principle does this detector work ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The metal detector is made of metallic coils connected with a capacitor. The coils and capacitors are at resonance, when someone carrying metallic things walks through the metal delector, the impendance of the circuit changes. This change in impedance changes the current in the circuit, Which is delected and a sound is emitted.

During extraction of metals, electrolytic refining is used to obtain pure metals. During the process, the impure metal is made the anode and a thin strip of pure metal is made the cathode. The solution of the metal salt is used as an electrolyte. On passing the current through the electrolyte, the pure metal from the anode dissolves from the electrolyte. An equivalent of pure metal from the electrolyte is deposited on the cathode. What is refining of metals?

When light of energy 2.5 eV falls on a metal surface, the maximum K.E. of the emitted electrons is T. If the radiation of energy 4eV is made incident on the same metal surface, the K.E. of the electrons is doubled. What is the work function of the metal ?

Read the following passage carefully and choose the most appropriate answer to the question out of the four alternatives. True, It is the function of the army to maintain law and order in abnormal times. But in normal times there is another force that compels citizens to obey the laws and to act with due regard to the rights of others. The force also protects the lives and the properties of law abiding men. Laws are made to secure the personal safety of its subjects and to prevent murder and crimes of violence. They are made to secure the property of the citizens against theft and damage to protect the rights of communities and castes to carry out their customs and ceremonies, so long as they do not conflict with the rights of others. Now the good citizen, of his own free will obey these laws and he takes care that everything he does is done with due regard to the rights and well-being of others. But the bad citizen is only restrained from breaking these laws by fear of the consequence of his actions. And the necessary steps to compel the bad citizen to act as a good citizen are taken by this force. The supreme control of law and order in a State is in the hands of a Minister who is responsible to the State Assembly and acts through the Inspector General of Police. "They are made to secure the property of citizens against theft and damage" means that the law:

In this section, each item consists of six sentences of a passage. The first and sixth sentences are given in the beginning as S1 and S6. The middle four sentences in each item have been jumbled up and labelled as P, Q, R and S. You are required to find the proper sequence of the four sentences and mark your response accordingly on the Answer Sheet. S1 : One day her mother, having made some cakes, said to her, "Go, my dear, and see how your grandmother is doing, for I hear she has been very ill. Take her a cake, and this little pot of butter." S6 : "Does she live far off?* said the wolf. P: He asked her where she was going Q : The poor child, who did not know that it was dangerous to stay and talk to a wolf, said to him, "I am going to see my grandmother and carry her a cake and a little pot of butter from my mother." R: As she was going through the wood, she met with a wolf, who had a very great mind to eat her up, but he dared not, because of some woodcutters working nearby in the forest. S : She set out immediately to go to her grandmother, who lived in another village. The correct sequence should be
