What happens when a current carrying wire is placed in a magnetic field?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When a current carrying wire is placed inside a uniform magnetic field then the net magnetic force acting on it depends on the location of two ends of the wire only. If you keep both ends of wire fixed at some locations inside a uniform magnetic field then the magnetic force on it will remain same for any shape you can give to the wire. If it is a closed loop then it will always experience net zero magnetic force if magnetic field applied is uniform. However, the case is different if the magnetic field is not uniform.
