Justify that the reaction
`2Cu_(2)O_(s)+Cu_(2)S(s)rarr6Cu(s)+SO_(2)(g)` a redox reaction. Identify the species oxidised`//`reduced. Which acts as an oxidanat and which acts as a reductant?

Let us write the oxidation number of each element.

In this reaction reduced from +1 state (in `Cu_2O " or " Cu_2S` ) to 0 (in Cu) whereas sulphur is oxidised from -2 state (in `Cu_2S` ) to . Therefore , the above reaction is a redox reaction.
In the reaction , `Cu_2` helps sulphur in `Cu_2S` to increases its oxidation numbers from -2 to +4 and therefore , `Cu_2O ` is oxidant .
Alternatively , sulphur in `Cu_2` helps copper in both `Cu_2O and Cu_2S` to decrease its oxidation number (i.e., get reduced) and therefore , `Cu_2S` is reluctant.
