The compound AgF2 is unstable compound ....

The compound `AgF_2` is unstable compound . However , if formed , the compound acts as a very strong oxidising agent . Why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In `AgF_2` , oxidation state of Ag is +2 which is very unstable. Therefore , it readily accepts an electron to form a more stable oxidation state of +1 as
`Ag^(2+)+e^(-)rarrAg^(+)`
Therefore , `AgF_2` if formed will act as a strong oxidising agent.
