Identify the correct statements with reference to the given reaction
`P_(4)+3OH^(-)+3H_(2)OtoPH_(3)+3H_(2)PO_(2)^(-)`

A

Phosphorus undergoing reduction only

B

Phosphorus in undergoing oxidation only

C

Phosphorus is undergoing oxidation as well as reduction.

D

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
C, D

`overset(0)(P_4)+3overset(-2+1)(OH^(-))rarr3overset(+1-2)(H_2O)rarroverset(-3+1)(PH_3) +3H_2PO_2^(-)`
Because O. N of O increases form 0 `(P_4)` to +1 `(H_2PO_2^(-))` and decreases from `0(P_4)` tp -3 `(PH_3)` , therefore , P has undergone both oxidation as well as reduction . Option (c) is correct (c) is correct . Option (d) is also correct because O.N. of H remains +1 in all the compounds and hence hydrogen is undergoing neither oxidatin nor reduction.
