Agrobacterium tumifaciens act as a natural genetic engineer , who trans-forms normal plant cells into tumors. Justify the statement .

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Agrobacterium tumifaciens is a pathogen of several dicot plants. They are able to deliver a piece of DNA known as T-DNA to transform normal plant cells into a tumor , T-DNA is seen in `T_(1)` - plasmid of Agrobacterium tumifaciens . As they transform a normal cell into a tumor with the help of an inserted DNA, they can be called as natural genetic engineers.
