Equal masses of H(2), O(2) and methane h...

Equal masses of `H_(2)`, `O_(2)` and methane have been taken in a container of volume `V` at temperature `27^(@)C` in identical conditions. The ratio of the volume of gases `H_(2) : O_(2)` : methane would be

A

`8: 16 :1`

B

`16:8:1`

C

`16:1:2`

D

`8:1:2`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
C

Let the mass of `H_(2), O_(2)` and `CH_(4)` taken be .w. gram.
`therefore" Number of moles of "H_(2), O_(2) and CH_(4)" are "(w)/(2),(w)/(32) and (w)/(16)` respectively.
According to Avogadro.s law, ratio of volume is equal to ratio of number of moles under identical conditions of temperature and pressure.
`therefore" ratio of volumes of "H_(2):O_(2):CH_(4)=(1)/(2):(1)/(32):(1)/(16)`
`=16:1:2`
