The wininng team applies two force , one on the and other on the ground. By newton.s 3rd law, the net force on the rope is zero at every point on the rope considering it massless. So the work done by the winning team on losing team is zero and vice versa. The work is done by both the teams on the ground only. Negative work will be done by the losing team. Winners apply more horizontal force component to pull the losing team with respect to the earth. For winning team, Net horizontal component of force= Horizontal force applied by them- Tension in the rope>0 , As net horizontal force is negative, work done by losing team will be negative.
