Block will come to rest when compression of spring becomes maximu . Let x be the amount of compression . Given system is purely conservative hence total mechanical energy remains constant . We can say that loss in kinetic energy is equal to gain in potential energy of the spring .
` 1/2"mu"^(2) = 1/2 Kx^(2)`
` rArr " " x = u sqrt(m/K)`
