Carboxylic acids do not the characteristic of carbonyl group as given by aldehydes and ketons . In carboxylic acids the carboxyl group is involved in resonance , as follows :

therefore ,it is not a free , but no reasonance is possible in aldehydes and ketons , they give give the characteristic reactions of the group .
