Name three oxoacids of nitrogen. Write the disproportionation reaction of that oxoacid of nitrogen in which nitrogen is in +3 oxidation state.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Three oxoacids of nitrogen are :
(i) `HNO_2` , Nitrous acid
(ii) `HNO_3`, Nitric acid
(iii) `H_2N_2O_2` , Hyponitrous acid .
Oxidation state of N in `HNO_2` is +3 . On disproportionation , it gives `HNO_3` and `NO` as under:
`3HNO_2 overset("Disproportionations ")to HNO_2 + H_2O + 2NO`
