Prove that if a plane has the intercepts `a ,\ b ,\ c\ a n d\ ` is at a distance of `p` units from theorigin, then `1/(a^2)=1/(b^2)+1/(c^2)=1/(p^2)dot`

Text Solution

The equation of plane with the given details is
`x/a+y/b+z/c=1`
Now, distance from the origin `(0,0,0)` is given as p
thus
`p=|(1/a.0+1/b.0+1/c.0)/(sqrt((1/a)^2+(1/b)^2+(1/c)^2))|`
Rearranging, we have,
`1/p^2=1/a^2+1/b^2+1/c^2`
