Give reason for the following :
`F_(2)` is more reactive than `CIF_(3)` but `CIF_(3)` is more reactive than `Cl_(2)`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Due to the small size of flourine, it has high electronegativity and low bond energy so it is more reactive than CIF ,. But `Cl - Cl` bond energy is higher than `Cl – F` bond . Therefore `CIF_(3)` is more reactive than `Cl_(2)`.
