Why are the elements of Group - 18 known as noble gases?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The elements of group of 18 have their valence shell orbitals completely filled. As a result, they react with only a few elements (oxygen and fluorine) only under certain conditions. Therefore, they are called noble gases.
