What inspired N. Bartlett for carrying out reaction between `Xe and PtF_(6)` ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Firstionisation enthalpy of molecular oxygen almost similar with that of Xenon. Thus, after, preparing red coloured compound `O_(2)^(+)[PtF_(6)]^(-)`, Bartlett got inspired for carrying out reaction between Xe and PtF, and made efforts to prepare `Xe^(+)[PtF_(6)]^(-)` by mixing `Xe and PtF_(6)`
