What inspired N. Bartlett for carrying out reaction between Xe and `PtF_6` ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

N. Bartlett prepared a red compound `O_(2)^(+)[PtF_(6)]^-`. He realised that the first ionisation enthalpy of `O_(2)` molecule and Xe is nearly same. He made efforts to prepare some type of compound with Xe and successfully prepared a red compound `Xe^(+)[PtF_(6)]^(-)`.
