Expand `(1+ x+ x^(2))^(3)` using binomial expansion.

Text Solution

Put `1+x = y`. Then ,
`(1 + x+ x^(2)) ^(3) = ( y + x^(2) ) ^ ( 3) `
`=.^(3) C _ (0)y^(3) + .^(3) y C_(1)y^(2) x^(2) + .^(3) C_(2)y(x^(2))^(2)+ .^(3) C _(3) (x^(2))^(3)`
`= y^(3) + 3y^(2) x^(2) + 3yx^(4) + x^(6) `
`(1+x)^(3) + 3x^(2) (1+x)^(2) + 3x^(4) ( 1+x) +x^(6) " " [:' y= (1+x) ]`
`= (1+.^(3)C_(1)x + ^(3)C_(3)x^(3)) + 3x^(2) ( 1+ 2x + x^(2)) + 3x^(4) ( 1+x) + x^(6)`
`=(1+ 3x + 3x^(2) + x^(3)) + ( 3x^(2) + 6x^(3) + 3x^(4)) + ( 3x^(4) + 3x^(5)) + x^(6)`
`=x^(6) + 3x^(5) + 6x^(4) = 7x^(3) + 6x^(2) + 3x + 1 .`
Hence,`(1+x+x^(2))^(3) = x^(6) + 3x^(5) + 6x^(4) + 7x^(3) + 6x^(2) + 3x + 1 .`
