A source of sound gives five beats per second when sounded with another source of frequency `100s^-1`. The second harmonic of the source together with a source of frequency `205s^-1` gives five beats per second. What is the ferquency of the source?

A

95 Hz

B

105 Hz

C

100 Hz

D

205 Hz

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

Let the frequency of the source be `upsilon`.
In first case `upsilon=100pm5=105,95`. The second harmonic has frequency `2upsilon` i.e. `200pm10=210 or 190`. If 5 beats are produced with 205 frequency then 210 is frequency of second harmonic. Hence `upsilon=105Hz`.
