Two sitar strings A and B playing the note 'Ga' are slightly out of tune and produce beats of frequency 6 Hz. The tension in the string A is slightly reduced and the beat frequency is found to reduce to 3 Hz. If the original frequency of A is 324 Hz, what is the frequency of B?

A

330 Hz

B

318 Hz

C

324 Hz

D

321 Hz

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
D

Let the original frequency of sitar string A be `upsilon_(A)` and the original frequency of sitar string B be `upsilon_(B)`.
Number of beats produced per second = 6
`therefore upsilon_(B)=upsilon_(A)pm6=324pm6=330or318Hz`.
When tension in A is reduced, its frequency reduces `(because upsilonpropsqrt(T))`
Number of beats per second reduces to 3.
Therefore, frequency of `B=324-6=318Hz`
