In day of summer the glass of water of ice becomes hot on table with respect to time and the cup of heat tea becomes cold on table with respect to time. Write its reason.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When the temperature of cold water and hot tea are different than their surroundings, then the heat is exchanged between system and surrounding until their temperature becomes same. Hence the cold water is heated and cup of tea cooled.

Assertion: Current is passed through a metallic wire, heating it red. When cold water is poured on half of its portion, then rest of the half portion become more hot. Reason: Resistance decreases due to decrease in tem perature and so current through wire increases.

A cup contains some mercury in it. Now a narrow glass tube is lowered in the mercury. After some time the mercury level in the tube becomes lower than the mercury level outside the tube as shown in diagram. During this process (Choose correct statements)

A metal rod AB of length 10x has its one end A in ice at 0^@C , and the other end B in water at 100^@C . If a point P one the rod is maintained at 400^@C , then it is found that equal amounts of water and ice evaporate and melt per unit time. The latent heat of evaporation of water is 540cal//g and latent heat of melting of ice is 80cal//g . If the point P is at a distance of lambdax from the ice end A, find the value lambda . [Neglect any heat loss to the surrounding.]

(a) Estimate the speed with which electrons emitted from a heated emitter of an evacuated tube impinge on the collector maintained at a potential difference of 500 V with respect to the emitter. Ignore the small initial speeds of the electrons. The specific charge of the electron, i.e., its e/m is given to be 1.76 xx 10^(11) C kg^(-1) . (b) Use the same formula you employ in (a) to obtain electron speed for an collector potential of 10 MV. Do you see what is wrong ? In what way is the formula to be modified?

Assertion: Heat is generated continoulsy in an electric heater but its temperature becomes constant after some time. Reason:- At the stage when heat produced in heater is equal to the heat dissipated to its surrounding the temperature of heater becomes constant.

A physical quantity is a phyical property of a phenomenon , body, or substance , that can be quantified by measurement. The magnitude of the components of a vector are to be considered dimensionally distinct. For example , rather than an undifferentiated length unit L, we may represent length in the x direction as L_(x) , and so forth. This requirement status ultimately from the requirement that each component of a physically meaningful equation (scaler or vector) must be dimensionally consistent . As as example , suppose we wish to calculate the drift S of a swimmer crossing a river flowing with velocity V_(x) and of widht D and he is swimming in direction perpendicular to the river flow with velocity V_(y) relation to river, assuming no use of directed lengths, the quantities of interest are then V_(x),V_(y) both dimensioned as (L)/(T) , S the drift and D width of river both having dimension L. with these four quantities, we may conclude tha the equation for the drift S may be written : S prop V_(x)^(a)V_(y)^(b)D^(c) Or dimensionally L=((L)/(T))^(a+b)xx(L)^(c) from which we may deduce that a+b+c=1 and a+b=0, which leaves one of these exponents undetermined. If, however, we use directed length dimensions, then V_(x) will be dimensioned as (L_(x))/(T), V_(y) as (L_(y))/(T), S as L_(x)" and " D as L_(y) . The dimensional equation becomes : L_(x)=((L_(x))/(T))^(a) ((L_(y))/(T))^(b)(L_(y))^(c) and we may solve completely as a=1,b=-1 and c=1. The increase in deductive power gained by the use of directed length dimensions is apparent. A conveyer belt of width D is moving along x-axis with velocity V. A man moving with velocity U on the belt in the direction perpedicular to the belt's velocity with respect to belt want to cross the belt. The correct expression for the drift (S) suffered by man is given by (k is numerical costant )

Two particles A and B of mass 2m and m respectively are attached to the ends of a light inextensible string of length 4a which passes over a small smooth peg at a height 3a from an inelastic table. The system is released from rest with each particle at a height a from the table. Find - (i) The speed of B when A strikes the table (ii) The time that elapses begore A first hits the table. (iii) The time for which A is resting on the table after the first collision & begore it is first jerked off.

Assertion :- A particle has positive acceleration it means that its speed always increases. Reason :- Acceleration is the rate of change of speed with respect to time.

One day in the morning, Ramesh filled up 1/3 bucket of hot water from geyser, to take bath. Remaining 2/3 was to be filled by cold water (at room temperature) to bring mixture to a comfortable temperature. Suddenly Ramesh had to attend to something which would take take some times, say 5-10 minutes before he could take bath. Now he had two options : (1) fill the remaining bucket completely by cold water and then attend to the cork, (2) first attend to the work and fill the remaining bucket just before taking bath. Which option do you think would have kept water warmer ? Explain.
