Explain how and why controlled breeding experiment is carried out in cattle.

Controlled breeding experiments are carried out in cattle using artificial insenination. Herein, semen is collected from the male and injected into the reproductive tract of the selected female by the breeder. The semen can be used immediately or can be frozen and used at a later date. Controlled breedingexperiments are carried out in cattle for the following reasons :
(i) To increase milk production by cattle.
(ii) To increase growth rate in beef cattle.
