The position-time graph of a particle of mass 0.1 kg is shown. The impulse at t = 2s is :

A

`0.2 kg ms^(-1)`

B

`0.02 kg ms^(-1)`

C

`0.1 kg ms^(-1)`

D

`0.4 kg ms^(-1)`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

From the graph it is clear that upto `t= 2.0 ` s, the body moves with a constant velocity = slope of positiin - time graph `= 4/2 = 2` m/s after ` t= 2.0 s ` position - time graph is parallel to time axis , which means that the body comes to rest
` therefore ` change in velocity `= Delta v= 2 m//s`
impulse `=` change in momentum
`= Delta p = m Delta v = 0.1 kg xx 2 ms^(-1) = 0.2 ms^(-1)`
