A monkey climbs up and another monkey climbs down a rope hanging from a tree with same uniform acceleration separately. If the respective masses of monkeys are in the ratio 2:3, the common acceleration must be

A

`(g)/(5)`

B

`6g`

C

`(g)/(2)`

D

`g`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

Let T be the tension in the rope.
When monkey climbs up with acceleration a,
`T-m_1 g = m_1 a `
When another monkey climbs down with same acceleration a,
` m_2 g - T m_2 a `
Adding (i) and (ii), we get
`(m_2 -m_1 )g =(m_1 +m_2) a`
`or (1- (m_1)/(m_2)) g=[(m_1)/(m_2)+1] a or (1- (2)/(3)) g= [(2)/(3) +1]a`
` or 1/3 g= (5)/(3) a or a= (g)/(5)`

AB is a vertically suspended elastic cord of negligible mass and length L. Its force constant is k=(4mg)/L . There is a massless platform attached to the lower end of the cord. A monkey of mass m starts from top end A and slides down the cord with a uniform acceleration of g/2 . Just before landing on the platform, the monkey loses grip on the cord. After landing on the platform the monkey stays on it. Calculate the maximum extension in the elastic cord.

A monkey of mass m climbs up to a rope hung over a fixed pulley. The opposite end of the rope is tied to a weight of mass M lying on a horizontal plane. Neglecting the friction, find the acceleration of both the bodies (relative to the plane) and the tension of the rope for the three cases: (i) The monkey does not move with respect to the rope (ii) The monkey moves upwards with respect to the rope with acceleration a. (iii) The monkey moves downwards with respect to the rope, with acceleration a.
