(i) Antibiotics

(i) Antibiotics : Antibiotics are used as drugs to treat infections because of their low toxicity for humans and animals. These substances in low concentration inhibit the growth or destroy micro-organisms, e.g., penicillin.
(ii) Antiseptics : These substances are applied to living tissues, such as wounds, cuts, ulcers. e.g., soframycin.
(iii) Analgesics : They reduce or abolish pain without causing impairment of consciousness, mental confusion or paralysis. e.g., aspirin.
