In figure the tension in the diagram string is `60 N`
(a) Find the magnitude of the horizontal force `F_(1)` and `F_(2)` that must be applied to hold the system In the position shown.
(b) What is the weight of the suspended block?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(a) At `P`
At `P`, `F_(2) = T cos 45^(@) = (T)/(sqrt2)` …(i)
`w = T cos 45^(@) = (T)/(sqrt2)` …(ii)
At `Q`, `F_(1) = (T)/(sqrt2)` …(iii) From these three equations , we can see that
`F_(1) = F_(2) = w = (T)/(sqrt2) = (60)/(sqrt2) = 30sqrt2 N`
