A ball is released from a height and it reaches the ground in 3 s. If `g=9.8 "m s"^(-2)`, find the value of the velocity with which the ball will strike the ground.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Height from which the ball was released = h
Time = t = 3s
Acceleration due to gravity = `g = 9.8 "ms"^(-2)`
Initial velocity = u = 0 (since the ball starts from rest)
velocity with which the ball strikes the ground = v
Applying the equation of motion,
`v^2=u^2+2gh`
or, `v^2=0^2 + 2 xx 9.8 xx 44.1`
or , `v^2`=864.36
`therefore v= 29.4 "ms"^(-1)`
