Why lithium carbonate is not stable to heat?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Lithium being small in size polarises a large `CO_(3)^(2-)` ion leading to the formation of more stable `Li_(2)O` and `CO_(2)` on heating, due to this tendency of lithium, lithium carbonate is not stable.
