Conment on the statement, 'A law cannot ...

Conment on the statement, 'A law cannot be proved'.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

It can only be verified, or disproved by observations and experiments. The possibilily is always there that new observations will revise or discard the law. We can disprove it by finding one behaviour that is inconsistent with it but we can never prove that a law is always correct. e.g., Newton.s laws of motion fail when tested on speeds comparable to the speed of light. It leaves them as an extremely useful speciał case of more comprehensive law, Einstein.s special theory of relativity. This only diminishes its range if validity but its usefulness remains undiminished in the vast and important region where they agree with experiments.
