The ionisation potential of hydrogen is ...

The ionisation potential of hydrogen is `13.60 eV`. Calculate the energy required to produce one mole of `H^(o+)` ion `(1 eV = 96.3 kJ mol^(-1))`.

Text Solution

Given I.P. = 13.60 eV / atom
`I.P. = 13.60 xx 96.49 // "mole" = 1312 . 264 ` kJ/mole
No of atoms corresponding to 0.1 mole `H^(+) rArr 6.023 xx 10^22`
So for 1 mole atom ionization energy = 1312.264 kJ
For ` 6.023 xx 10^22 " atom is " = (1312.264 xx 6.023)/(6.023 xx 10^23) xx 10^22 = 1312.2 kJ`
