In 1L saturated solution of `AgCl[K_(SP)(AgCl)= 1.6xx10^(-10)], 0.1` mole of CuCI `[K_(SP)(CuCl)=1.0xx10^(-6)]` is added. The resulrant concentration of `Ag^(+)` in the solution is `1.6xx10^(-x)`. The value of `"x"` is:

A

B

5

C

D

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

Since `K_(sp)` of CuCl is very high compared to AgCl.
`[Cl^(-)] =[Cl^(-)]_("from AgCl") + [Cl^(-)]_("from CuCl") approx. [Cl^(-)]_("from CuCl")=10^(-3)`
For AgCl
`1.6xx10^(-10)=[Ag^(+)]xx10^(-3)implies [Ag^(+)]=1.6xx10^(-7)` Hence x = 7
