Prove that the function f(x)=x^2-x+1 is ...

Prove that the function `f(x)=x^2-x+1` is neither increasing nor decreasing on `(-1,\ 1)` .

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`f(x) = x^(2) - x +1`
` rArr f'(x) = 2x -1`
Let `f'(x) = 0`
`rArr 2x-1 =0`

`rArr x= 1/2`

`:' ` In (-1, 1), f'(x) has not same sign.
`:.` f(x) is neither increasing nor decreasing in (-1, 1).
