Sun appears red in colour during sunrise...

Sun appears red in colour during sunrise but appears white at noon. Explain with the reasons.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Blue colour is scattered the most and red colour the least by air molecules and particles in the earth.s atmosphere. At noon, only little blue and violet colours are scattered and hence, the sun appears white. At sunrise or sunset, sunlight passes through a longer distance in the atmosphere. En route, blue colour [shorter wavelength] would have been mostly removed by scattering leaving behind red colour [longer wavelengths] which reaches our yes. Thus, at sunset or sunrise, the sun appears reddish in colour.
