Genetic Code It is the relationship between the sequences of nucleotides on mRNA and the sequence of amino acids in the polypeptide chain. Genetic code is a sequence of three nucleotides present on mRNA which codes for a specific amino acid during translation. .Genetic codes are triplet, unambiguous and specific, degenerate and universal. AUG has dual functions, it codes for methionine (met) and also acts as initiator codon.
