(a) Many biologically important natural compounds, exist as coordinate complexes e.g. chlorophyil, haemoglobin. Haemoglobin acts as `O_(2)` carrier in the blood.
(b) Coordination compounds find use in many qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis. The familiar colour reactions given by metal ions with a number of ligands, e.g. EDTA, DMG, `alpha`-nitroso-`beta`-naphthol, cupron, etc. involve the formation of coordination compounds.
( c ) Many toxic metal fons are removed by the use of chelate therapy in medicinal chemistry, e.g. excess of copper and iron present in animal system are removed by the chelating ligands. D-penicillamine and desferrioxime B via formation of coordination compounds. EDTA is used in treatment of lead poisoning. cis-platin is used in cancer therapy.

Study the following statements and select the incorrect ones. (i) Pyramids of energy and yearly biomass production can never be inverted, since this would violate the laws of thermodynamics. (ii) Pyramids of standing crop and numbers can be inverted, since the number of organisms at a time does not indicate the amount of energy flowing through the system. (iii) There are certain limitations of ecological pyramids such as they do not take into account the same species belonging to two or more trophic levels. (iv) Saprohytes are not given any place in ecological pyramids even though they play a vital role in the ecosystem.

Read the following statements and select the correct ones. (i) Vaccine is a preparation (or suspension ) of a dead/attenuated pathogen of a disease which on inoculation ( or injection ) into a healthy person, provides temporary/permanent active immunity by inducing antibodies formation. (ii) Immunisation is the process by which the body produces antibodies against the vaccine preventable diseases through administration of specific vaccines. (iii) The principle of immunisation or vaccination is based on the property of 'memory' of the immune system. iv) If a person is infected with some deadly microbes to which quick immune response is required; in that case, we need to directly inject the performed antibodies or antitoxins e.g., in case of tetanus.
