What is Brood Parasitism ? Give one example of Brood Parasitism.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Brood parasitism (in Birds). It is an interesting example of parasitism in which the parasitic birds lay its eggs in the nest of its host and let the host incubate them because the eggs of the parasite bird have evolved to resemble the host.s egg in size and colour to reduce the chances of detecting and ejecting foreign-egg from the nest by the host bird e.g. cuckoo (Koel) and crow show the phenomenon of brood parasitism during the breeding season from spring to summer.
