Explain various adaptations in Homeotherms and Poikilotherms.

Adaptations of Homoiotherms.
1. Homoiotherms of colder areas have large amount of subcutaneous fat (e.g., Whale, Polar Bear), thick hair or fur and feathers.
2. Shivering is a mechanism to warm the body during cold.
3. Perspiration reduces the impact of heat.
Adaptations of Poikilotherms.
1. They show hibernation during winter.
2. The animals pass the winters in warm caves, burrows, mud, crevices and hollows of tree trunks, e.g, frogs, lizards. Hibernation is also called winter sleep.
3. A similar short lived summer sleep or aestivation occurs in both poikilotherms (insects, spiders, amphibians, reptiles) and some homoiotherms (desert mammals).
