Aquatic plants (Hydrophytes).
1. They are characterised by presence of aerenchyma.
2. Poor root system.
3. Less developed xylem.
4. Dissected or ribbon shaped leaves. Growth of aquatic plants depends upon clarity of water. In sea, phytoplankton and other algae occur only upto 200 metres of photic zone.
Aquatic animals.
1. Have streamlined body.
2. Swimming organs.
3. Some water insects can hold themselves over the surface of water.
4. Aquatic animals have the problem of osmoregulation.
5. They expel excess water in fresh water habitats and extra salt in marine habitats.
