Explain the following terms: (i) Mimicry (ii) Acclimatisation.

(i) Mimicry. When one species mimics the other species. This phenomenon is called mimicry. The species to which it resembles is called model and the species which resembles known as mimic, e.g. Batesian Mimicry.
(a) Batesian mimicry-Monarch butterfly which contains toxins in the body is mimiced by viceroy butterfly which contains no toxin so the predator does not eat viceroy butterfly thinking that it is monarch butterfly.
(b) Mullerian mimicry-Monarch butterfly and the mimic queen butterfly.
(ii) Acclimatisation. The gradual physiological adjustment to slowly changing new environmental conditions is known as acclimatisation. If some environmental factor shifts beyond the tolerance range of an organism then it can acclimatise.
