How does temperature bring variation in the physical and chemical conditions of habitats?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The average temperature of land varies seasonally. It decreases from the equator towards the poles and from plains to the mountain tops. It ranges from subzero levels in polar areas to `50^(@)`C is tropical deserts in summer. The temperature affects the kinetics of enzymes and BMR of the organisms. The few organisms can thrive well in wide range of temperature and they are called as eurythermal. The majority of organisms are restricted to narrow range of temperature and are called stenothermal. Thus, the levels of tolerance of organisms to varying range of temperature determine their geographical distribution to a great extent.
