What role does the molecular interaction play in a solution of alcohol and water?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

There is strong hydrogen bounding in water moleculers as well as alcohol (ethanol) molecules. However, hydrogen bonding in water is stronger than in alcohol . It is due to larger - size of the `C_(2) H_(5)` - group in ethanol . Ethanol is freely soluble in water even though alcohol is an organic compound . This is due to the pressence of H-bonding between alcohol and water moleculars in solution
