What are the differences between homo polymer and copolymer ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Polymers whose repeating structural units are derived from only one type of monomer units are called homopolymers. For example, polythene is, a homopolymer of ethene or ethylene.
` underset("Ethene")(nCH_2 = CH_2) overset("Polymerize") to underset("Polyethene")([--CH_2 - CH_2--]n)`
Some other examples of homopolymer are Nylon-6, teflon, PVC etc.
Copolymer. Polymers whose repeating structural units are derived from two or more types of moncmer molecules are copolymers. For example, nylon 6,6 is a copolymer of hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid:

Some other examples of copolymer are terylene, bakelite, buna-S etc.
