The value of K (c) for the reaction A ...

The value of `K _(c)` for the reaction ` A hArr B + C` is ` 2. 5 xx 10 ^(-2)` S at given time, the composition of reaction mixture is `[A] = [B] = [C] = 2. 3 xx 10 ^(-3) M.` In which direction will the reaction proceed ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Given : `[A] = [B] = [C] = 2.3 xx 10^(-3)M`
Equilibrium constant `K_(c )` for the reaction `= 2.5 xx 10^(-2)`
Reaction quotient, `Q_(c )= ([B][C ])/([A]^(2)) = ((2.3 xx 10^(-3)M)(2.3 xx 10^(-3)M))/((2.3 xx 10^(-3)M)^(2)) = 1`
As `Q_(c) gt K_(c)` the reaction will proceed in the reverse direction.
