Describe the shapes of `BF_(3)` and `BH_(4)^(ө)`. Assign the hybridisation of boron in these species.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In `BF_(3)`, boron is `sp^(2)` -hybridized and, therefore , `BF_(3)` is a planar molecule. On the other hand, in `[BH_(4)]`, boron is `sp^(3)`-hybridized and hence `[BH_(4)]^(-)` is a tetrahedral species.
