Find the value of sec^(-1)(-2)+tan^(-1)(...

Find the value of `sec^(-1)(-2)+tan^(-1)(-1/sqrt3)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`sec^(-1)(-x)=pi-sec^(-1)x`
`sec^(-1)(-2)=pi-sec^(-1)2`
and the principal value of `sec^(-1)2" is " pi/3`
`:. Sec^(-1)(-2)=pi/-pi/3`
`=(2pi)/3`
Also, `tan^(-1)(-1/sqrt3)=-tan^(-1)(1/sqrt3),( :' tan^(-1)(-x)=-tan^(-1)x)`
`=-pi/6`
`:. sec^(-1)(-2)+tan^(-1)(-1/sqrt3)`
`=(2pi)/3-pi/6=pi/2`
